The launch of ZTE Axon 30 Pro and Ultra took all those who were expecting the adoption of in-screen camera off guard. We say this because, first of all, ZTE was the first in the world to succeed in bringing such an advanced feature to the shelves. The launch of the ZTE Axon 20 was historic in its own way: until then, the under-display camera sensor was something seen only in concepts or at best in prototypes. But as is often the case when you want to be first, you risk breaking a milestone but in a non-functional way, as evidenced by the poor photo quality on offer. Fortunately things now seemno proceed in the right way and ZTE has officially launched Axon 30 5G, model “standard”, the only one of the new series with selfie camera in the screen.

How the new under-display camera came about

So how did the Axon 30’s second-generation under-display camera come about? The Chinese company has brought forward the technology that allows the implementation of the camera in the screen, thanks to joint work with Visionox. The new generation of this type of screen (called InV see Pro) offers a new pixel structure, with which to ensure greater clarity of shots.

In addition, the new technology takes an important step forward and in the camera area (located in the middle of the upper edge of the panel) the pixel density has increased from 200 to 400 PPI.

But how is this particular technology structured? The process is explained by ZTE itself, showing how 7 layers of transparent display are applied over the camera, passed through a 3-layer process, for an effect betweenslucid best, perhaps even the best of this year.

And this is obviously reflected in the final version of the Axon 30, which is present from the front sensor. An important detail: the second gen, presented by ZTE during the MWC 2021 in Shanghai even integrated 3D facial recognition, via structured light technology, which, however, remained in the sphere of the prototype.

But how do we get to these results? In addition to the elements mentioned, there is also a hardware gimmick that is not insignificant. In fact, we have an independent display chipset, called UDC Pro, which then allows not only to have a better management of pixels around the front camera area, but also a better optimization of the screen itself.

And as we can see from the two videos appeared on the network, which show a dedicated hands-on, how the camera section below the display operates in various situations and in all seems that the panel of behave excellently.

The selfie camera, as promised, turns out to be practically invisible thanks to the nuova technology implemented in the screen. Even when using the front camera, the module remains well hidden.

Design and display

Beyond the queen technology of this smartphone, the technical details of the display should also be noted: it is a 6.92″ panel with Full HD+ AMOLED resolution, a refresh rate of 120 Hz and touch sampling at 360 Hz. It also covers 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and there’s 10-bit support as well. Basically, it doesn’t miss a thing!

Moving on to style details on the back, ZTE has given an important touch of color to the “Vanilla” (standard) model of the Axon 30 series. In fact, in addition to the classic Black, we also find a beautiful Tiffany, a leatherette model in Camel and then a particular version in White with colored rays under the important camera bumper, which is however smaller than the Pro and Ultra versions, which had different requirements in terms of sensors. For the rest, you can feel the same atmosphere of the other models in the range, except – obviously – for the display completely free of holes and notch.

Hardware and Software

The technical specifications, although passed into the “background” (in many quotes), are presented with a compartment really not bad. Let’s start with the SoC, which is not the Snapdragon 888 of the older brothers but that 870 that many are appreciating in this 2021. For the GPU then, we have the Adreno 650.

Very good the memory compartment, since we have multiple formats: 6/8/12 GB RAM and 128/256 of storage, which are certainly useful for the <a href=”https://gizchina.it/2021/07/che-cos-e-virtual-ram-come-funziona-xiaomi-oppo-vivo-oneplus-dettagli/” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollo

w noopener”>Virtual RAM

that will bring the smartphone up to 20 GB RAM, as anticipated by the brand but not confirmed during presentation. Interesting expansion up to 2 TB. Looking then at the battery, there is a 4,200 mAh module, with the possibility of charging at 55W, so sufficiently fast. For the software, there is (now obviously) Android 11 customized with MyOS 11.

The eyes on the camera below the display do not make us divert attention to the multimedia sector itself. In fact, if for the front sensor we have 16 MP (4-in-1 at 2.24 µm), for the back we have a quad camera with 64 MP Sony IMX682 main sensor, with other 8 + 5 + 2 MP. Not the best on the market, but definitely a good level. The main sensor, remember, is also present on Realme GT, Red Magic 6R and Meizu 18

ZTE Axon 30 5G: price and availabilityThe

price of ZTE Axon 30 5G, along with what is offered by the camera under the display, is certainly what makes it more intriguing. In fact, it starts from the 6/128 GB configuration at a price of about €286 (2,198 yuan), while for the 8/128 GB it goes up to about €325 (2,498 yuan), and then proceeds to the 8/256 GB version at about €364 (2,798 yuan) and ends with the maximum 12/256 GB version at about €403 (3,098 yuan). For now, it’s marketed in China only, but as was the case with its predecessor, it’s not ruled out at all that it will arrive in Europe.
