It was 2018 when we reviewed the Mi Pad 4, but since then there has been no realistic talk of a possible Xiaomi Mi Pad 5. Not so much because of demerits of the company itself, but because of an impoverishment of the tablet market in the Android sphere. Google’s OS hasn’t lived up to its Apple counterpart, with iPad practically cannibalizing sales. During 2020, there was talk again of a rumored Xiaomi tablet, albeit under the Redmi brand. In the early months of 2021, however, it is back to talk insistently about the Mi Pad 5, with concept renders, alleged specifications and even alleged prices.
Update 09/08: We’re now just a few hours away from the debut of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 and here comes a truckload of details, with the first benchmarks on Geekbench (in the Hardware section”) and details on the sales package, speaker and cover (in the “Design and Display” section).
Xiaomi Mi Pad 5: everything we know so farDesign
<img width=”1200″ height=”1200″ src=”https://gizchina.it/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/xiaomi-mi-pad-5-design-2.jpg 1200w, https://gizchina.it/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/xiaomi-mi-pad-5-design-2-300×300.jpg 300w, https://gizchina.it/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/xiaomi-mi-pad-5-design-2-150×150.jpg 150w, https://gizchina.it/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/xiaomi-mi-pad-5-design-2-768×768.jpg 768w, https://gizchina.it/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/xiaomi-mi-pad-5-design-2-696×696.jpg 696w, https://gizchina.it/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/xiaomi-mi-pad-5-design-2-1068×1068.jpg 1068w, https://gizchina.it/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/xiaomi-mi-pad-5-design-2-420×420.jpg 420w, https://gizchina.it/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/xiaomi-mi-pad-5-design-2-640×640.jpg 640w, https://gizchina.it/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/xiaomi-mi-pad-5-design-2-96×96.jpg 96w” alt=”xiaomi mi pad 5 design 2″ />The
new tablet Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 really exists: the device has been confirmed by the Chinese company and finally after years of absence we will have a new member of the series (and hopefully a worthy rival for the models of rival companies). Certainly there is a strong need for an Android tablet that can really meet the needs of users and hopefully this will not end up like the previous iMi Pad that we tell you about in this focus
Among certifications and rumors about technical specifications we also have a possible render, which shows a device inspired by the Mi 11 range. As proof of this we also have the render dedicated to accessories: these are mere representations that accompany the dedicated certifications, but in the case of the cover offer a glimpse of what could be the rear design. In fact we notice a square camera module, with rounded edges, just like the Mi 11. As proof of this we find a shot stolen from the production line.
In addition, between renders, rumors and confirmations from the company we know that Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 will be accompanied by at least 3 accessories: a keyboard, a cover and the pen. Both the keyboard and the pen have been officially confirmed and you can get a first glimpse of the design thanks to the official teaser posters. As for the official cover, we have a stolen shot that shows its style and the camera cutout on the back.
is the first time that the Pad range is enriched with accessories, a sign that perhaps this time Xiaomi is intent on getting serious, with an Android tablet that can go to rival solutions.

/>As for the leaked specifications on the net regarding the display (to be taken as mere rumors), it could be a 10.95″ unit with 2K resolution (maybe 3200 x 1200 pixels) with AMOLED technology, 120 Hz refresh rate and 480 Hz touch sampling. Other rumors, slightly more weighted, talk about an IPS LCD panel with 120 Hz refresh rate, brightness up to 410 nits and a resolution of2560 x 1600 pixels(with 16:10 ratio).
For the possible design, a (presumed) live image would reveal some details: along the left edge is the magnetic keyboard mount; in addition, the square camera module is almost clearly visible. On the right edge there is a module of which we are uncertain: it could be a magnetic docking station for the Pen or alternatively (perhaps a little more plausibly) it could be a fingerprint reader positioned to the side.
In case there are still any doubts
aboutl design, here is that a well-known Chinese leaker has published what should be the internal sketches dedicated to Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 (K82). The look is almost identical to what we saw in the first renders, with a style that is very reminiscent of that of the Mi 11 series. According to what we see in the image, the tablet will have four speakers, a dual front camera and the magnetic side docking. A detail reveals the possible presence of a fingerprint reader under the display: it would be, therefore, an OLED panel.
On the Chinese social network Weibo, an image has popped up that – also in this case – should come from the production chain. It shows the back cover of the Mi Pad 5, once again revealing a camera module like the one on the Mi 11 range. Chinese users are having a field day with the materials of the cover. At first glance, it could be a metal panel, but the glossy finish doesn’t convince leakers and enthusiasts alike, who are leaning towards a glass solution (too big, though) or a plastic one.
We don’t know the dimensions of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 yet, but CEO Lei Jun promises an ultra-thin tablet. He does so by showing us the sales package of the device, stating that a thin box… corresponds to a thin terminal!
Hardware and software
Chapter hardware complex to decipher, because even here the news are very discordant but we tried to clarify. First of all, the most interesting news could be the adoption of the built-in stylus that would project it in an ideal size for the work of creators. However, it was Xiaomi Group’s Weibo profile that gave a boost to the whole thing, stating that they are working on it. Digging into the MIUI code revealed other details: in addition to the
Stylus support it seems that the future Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 will also be able to support external keyboards. We have seen from the renders in the previous section that the tablet will have a proprietary stylus, cover and keyboard on its side.
Another interesting aspect is the presence of multiple models. According to the Xiaomiui
team, the K81 series would be the one referred to as the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro/Plus, while the K81A would be the unreleased Xiaomi Mi Tab 5 series. This would also be joined by the K82 series, namely Mi Tab 5 Lite. It’s not quite clear why Xiaomi would choose to launch so many tablets but more importantly why with these different designations. But it’s also true that it wouldn’t be the first time Xiaomi has used names in a fanciful way. The hypothesis is that Mi Pad 5 is the top series, Mi Tab 5 the intermediate one and Mi Tab 5 Lite the cheaper one, with tablets for all tastes and pockets.
Regarding the specifications, the chipset chapter comes among several rumors and that aimed all to the Snapdragon solution. First, the top model “enuma” (K81), would make use of an SoC Snapdragon 870. And it seems that the other model, K81A “elish“, may also have this CPU, while the third model K82 “nabu
“, the least performing (in many quotes), should make use of the Snapdragon 860.
All Leaked Xiaomi Tablets in one table.
I mentioned the battery capacity in the previous post but it was wrong information, sorry.

Xiaomiui | Xiaomi & MIUI News (@xiaomiui) April 11, 2021
Proving the presence of the Snapdragon 870, here are the first benchmarks on Geekbench: here Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 appears with the initials M2105K81AC, codenamed Elish, 6 GB of RAM, Android 11 and a chipset up to 3.19 GHz, which is precisely the model 870.
Initially there was talk of a battery of a good 12,400 mAh, but later some news from the MIUI code have adjusted the shot to 8,720 mAh. Things have become even more precise thanks to the certification of the 3C body: the document reports the presence of a dual-cell battery of 4,260 mAh, then a unit of 8,520 mAh. It’s possible that these three amperages refer to three different Xiaomi tablet models.

terms of fast charging is always the body 3C to provide answers: the new certification is dedicated to all three tablets that will make up the series. We have the K82 model: it would be Xiaomi Mi Pad/Tab 5 Lite and the full designation is 21051182C. In this case we will have a 33W charging.
Things get interesting with the K81A and K81 models – marked M2105K81AC and M2105K81C – which would both have a 67W charging. Remember that the two should arrive on the market as Mi Pad/Tab 5 and Mi Pad/Tab 5 Pro.
There would also be support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, while the fingerprint sensor would be on the side. The audio part will also be respectable, as also revealed by an official teaser: most publications see us confirming at least 8 speakers on board. However, we remain waiting to know more.
In addition to the hardware, it will be very important to evaluate the work done on the software side. And after discovering how Mi MIX Fold
is made, there are those who speculate that on board the tablet we will find it in part. Reference is made to a PC-style version of MIUI, designed for larger smartphone screens, and it is very likely that this is the Desktop mode introduced on the foldable.
Recall that Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro has been certified in the country with the initials M2105K81C by the TENAA body. Unfortunately, the document doesn’t reveal anything about the device’s specifications and design, but the appearance in the Chinese body’s database is a good sign: on the one hand it indicates that the launch is now around the corner, on the other hand it’s only a matter of time before TENAA publishes images and specifications.
Cementing what we’ve reported so far is also the FCC certification regarding the K82 model, the rumored Mi Tab 5 Lite, which is expected to retain the Snapdragon 860 CPU and all the other
features previously presented. Among the new features, we have the confirmation of MIUI 12.5, 22.5W charging especially in the Global version and potentially could be a 4G-only or even Wi-Fi-only model, certified as Wi-Fi 6.
the camera side, rumors speak of a dual 20 MP Sony IMX586 main sensor and a 13 MP wide-angle sensor. The gem would be the optical zoom 5X and electronic 30X, although this technology, for a tablet, may be superfluous. No mention instead for the selfie camera. In contrast, the rumored Xiaomi Mi Tab 5 Lite would have a lesser camera compartment, featuring a single 12 MP camera.
Some rumors even talk about a larger model with a 108 MP main sensor, but for now there are no confirmations or denials.
Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 – Price and release date
Finally, the Chinese company has officially confirmed the presentation date of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5: the new tablet will arrive on August 10, during the event dedicated to Mi MIX 4
. For the
moment, the announcement concerns only China, but remember that in recent weeks the device was certified by the EEC with the initials 21051182G: it is a Global document, dedicated to the Eurasian market. In short, it seems that the device will not only debut outside of China, but should also arrive in Europe (but for now there is no official confirmation).
For the price, from the long leak on Weibo Tech Man, we have news of the alleged configurations, which we report below:
- 8/128 GB: 510€ (3999 yuan)
- 8/256 GB: €549 (4299 yuan)
- 12/512GB: 638€ (4999 yuan)
- 16GB/1TB: 702€ (5499 yuan)
In short, although everything fluctuates between confirmed and hypothetical leak, we will find out in a few days if Xiaomi will give us the gift of a new tablet after years of stop or if this will be replaced instead by the foldable
