Well yes, Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 seems to exist. And no, I’m not talking about Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold, the foldable that we now know well, but the true fourth chapter in the saga Mi MIX. Still we are in the field of rumors, but rumors are giving for certain its debut in the coming months. And as expected, the new Mi MIX 4 would fully reincarnate the sense for which this family of smartphones was conceived. Let’s see, then, what are all the clues about the data sheet, price and release date.
Update 09/08: Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 has been the protagonist of the final leak, with technical specifications and images. You can find all the details directly inside the article, in the various sections dedicated to the flagship.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 close to debut: here’s all we know
Design and display
The claims of the leakers seem rather peremptory: Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 will be the long-awaited smartphone with an under-screen camera. A technology that Xiaomi has been working on for years, having even spoken publicly and giving demonstration with a very first prototype. Since then there has been no concrete talk about it and, to date, only ZTE has ventured in this direction with its Axon series.
Placing the camera behind the screen will be made possible by a portion of glass with low reflectance and high transmittance. Precise details are still lacking, buta we expect a step forward in terms of quality, given the limitations seen with the OPPO and ZTE models. According to rumors it will be so, thanks to a structure of the OLED matrix better managed by Xiaomi.
From other leaks we learn that the sensor will be almost invisible, compared even to the solution provided for example on Galaxy Z Fold 3, much more visible. So, we will really get the feeling as if the sensor is not present. Aesthetically speaking, Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 will have on its side a Dual Edge screen, for the first time on a Mi MIX terminal, with massive dimensions and zero punch holes. It would be a 6.67″ AMOLED solution with Full HD+ resolution, Gorilla Glass Victus, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, 10-bit color and 480 Hz touch sampling. The refresh rate is expected to be 120 Hz.
Speaking of the under-display camera, a leaked video on the net shows what should be the panel on board the flagship and reveals the selfie camera potion. This is located in the top left corner and is practically invisible when the screen is on.
However, if you want to take a look at the final design of the back, in these hours has arrived both a render and a shot dedicated to the official cover of the flagship, which seems to confirm the features of the camera.
We see a shell that recalls materials and style from previous generations of Mi MIX. The camera layout is reminiscent of that of the Mi 11 Ultra, but the Second Display will remain exclusive to the Mi 11 series. In terms of dimensions, the device would measure 162.65 x 75.35 x 8.02 mm for a weight of 225 grams.
For the specs of Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 – codenamed Odin or even K8 – we should find the latest Snapdragon 888+ on board. Made with 5nm manufacturing process, frequency up to 3.0 GHz and equipped with Adreno 660 GPU. Leaks also specify the presence of a 5G modem with support for mmWave networks.
The top of the line has appeared in the first benchmarks on Geekbench with 12 GB of RAM and Android 11 on the software side.
Among the new features that we should find on board the super flagship, we have support for Ultra Wide Band tracking, the technology designed with Bluetooth type LE (Low Energy) that can create a network of tracking devices expanded thanks to the response of terminals of the same type or brand. This would allow the new smartphone to be the first of Xiaomi with this technology, thus reaching Apple and Samsung that have anticipated with iPhone 12 and Galaxy S21. In addition, this obviously opens the hypothesis Smart Tag also for Xiaomi, of which we already know interesting details.
Talking about the battery instead, we’re talking about a dual-cell 4,500 mAh unit. Xiaomi recently unveiled its 200W technology (wired, instead wireless goes up to 120W): unfortunately it seems that this novelty will not debut on board Xiaomi Mi MIX 4. The top of the range will have a 120W fast charging (like Mi 10 Ultra), with support for wireless charging from 50W and reverse charging from 10W.
On the memory side, the model marked 2106118C, which is precisely the alleged Xiaomi Mi MIX 4, has been certified by the TENAA body in 8/256GB and 12/256GB (LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1) sizes.
Recently we started talking about MIUI 13, coming in the next few months (Xiaomi has already confirmed the work in progress). Of course, we have already talked about the papable new features that will be introduced with the new interface – you can find all the details here – along with the possible smartphones that will receive the update(the alleged list is in this article). But what will be the first device to receive the new UI natively?
According to various Chinese leakers on Weibo, the first smartphone equipped with MIUI 13 to debut would be the Xiaomi MI MIX 4. But according to the most reliable rumors reported by Xiaomiui, it will take more time and even Mi MIX 4 will come out with MIUI 12.5 pre-installed. Adding to the hype is one of the executives involved in Xiao’s public relations department.mi: Wang Hua has denied the release of MIUI 13 in August, revealing that we will have to be patient again. As a result, the next installment of the MIX series – expected soon – will have the latest version of MIUI 12 on its side.
Obviously, the focal point of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 would be the front-facing camera placed behind the screen, of which, however, we still know little. We don’t know much about the rear camera either, but what is almost certain is that it will be a compartment up to the standards of the latest Xiaomi tops. There is talk of a 108 + 13 + 8 MP triple camera with Samsung’s main sensor (OIS), wide-angle FOV 120° and periscope telephoto with 5x optical zoom and 120x digital zoom (OIS). Additional features also include 15x Video Zoom and 1920fps Slow Motion.
For the selfie camera it should be a 20 MP solution, but details are still lacking for now.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 – Price and release date
In a few days, CEO Lei Jun will give a speech to celebrate 10 years since the brand’s first smartphone series. Obviously, this is the perfect opportunity to present Xiaomi Mi MIX 4: the appointment with the super flagship is set for August 10, 2021 and other news should also be announced.
On the other hand, as far as the possible selling price of Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 is concerned, a new report from China tries to shed some light on the matter: in no uncertain terms, it will be an expensive smartphone. According to reports from the source
you, there will not be a “cheap” version of the flagship but only one equipped with selfie camera under the display and the price will be higher than that of Mi 11 Ultra
, current super top of the Chinese company. And in terms of figures, there is talk of a starting base of at least € 780 at the exchange rate (5,999 yuan), but it is likely to cost around € 800-900 (always at the exchange rate).
It hurts me to say this, but no global plans at the moment.

That’s probably why it will be sold only in China. What was previously just a guess has now been confirmed by Xiaomi Global’s product PR Agatha Tang herself.
