According to reports from WABetaInfo and 9to5Google, WhatsApp may soon unveil a way for its users to transfer their conversation histories from iOS to Android. This feature could solve one of the biggest annoyances of the Facebook-owned messaging service, since as of now it is officially not possible to transfer a backup of your messages between iOS and Android.

Reports reveal that this feature has been discovered in the app’s code since April. On Twitter, WABetaInfo posts screenshots where the ability to “Move chats to Android” can clearly be seen. In a second screenshot, we can see that a message invites users to keep their iPhone unlocked with WhatsApp open during the transfer.

WhatsApp impacted by Project Pegasus

This new WhatsApp feature to be part of the Google-led project to develop an iOS app called “Move to Android”. A service similar to the one offered by Apple on the Play Store: “Move to iOS”.

This news of the migration feature comes as WhatsApp via Facebook has just filed a complaint against NSO Group, the company that publishes the Pegasus software. Of the 50,000 cases exposed by Forbidden Stories, WhatsApp confirms that some of its users are affected. In any case, it is still too early to know exactly when WhatsApp could deploy this feature.
