What are Adobe XD plugins?
Adobe XD has become the reference software for UI/UX designers and creatives from all over the world. Its power is not only given by its “native” functions, such as the grid repeater or automatic animations, but also by a series of plug-ins developed by third parties.
The plugins for Adobe XD are able to integrate XD with extra features and allow users to save a lot of time in their work.
Let’s take a look at how to activate plugins, how to search for and install plugins…but, most importantly, which Adobe XD plugins are indispensable.
Warning: although all Adobe XD plugins can be installed for free, some may require payments and subscriptions to unlock the most advanced features.
Where to find Adobe XD plugins
In the Adobe XD interface go to the bottom left of the screen and you will find the Lego brick icon. Alternatively use the shortcuts:
CMD+SHIFT+P on Mac, CTRL+SHIFT+P on PC.
In this screen you can do two things, manage the plugins currently installed (and then remove them if necessary) or search for new plugins for adobe xd to install
Adobe XD allows you to browse the plugins according to the occasions of use. You’ll find plugins that aim to improve the integration between XD and other software and services (such as Slack, Google Drive or Dropbox) or plugins that serve to check your projects or export them in the formats you prefer (such as Web Export).

The indispensable plugins inside Adobe XD
Let’s distinguish indispensable plugins into different categories.
- Creative and Design:
- Humaaans Illustration
- Icons 4 Design
- Integrations and Workflow
- Google sheets
- Output and sharing
When your projects must be enriched with icons, illustrations and photos (strictly royalty free) the plugins unDraw, Humaaan, Icons 4 Design and Pexels are for you. These adobe xd plugins are free; thanks to the search field you can find vector illustrations, icons and photos in a matter of seconds. They are among the essential Adobe XD plugins because they allow you to insert creative elements without leaving the program.
Among the essential plugins on the front of the integrations those for dropbox and slack are very useful when you commonly use these apps for your workflow. In particular, the Slack plugin allows you to share from within XD your project directly on a Slack channel with colleagues and/or clients.
A special mention among the indispensable, and often ignored, plugins is theand, is definitely the one for google sheets. This plugin allows you to connect a google spreadsheet with a repetition grid inside adobe xd and populate it automatically drawing on the updated data on google cloud.
Let’s take an example:
You are creating a catalog for an e commerce with XD, or maybe a test feed for a customer … with the options of repeating grid you can create the layout and with google sheet you can go and fill it with all the info (perhaps written by a colleague) as price, product name, captions … and why not … product images!
In the Output and sharing category, among the indispensable plugins we have to mention Web Export and Anima. Both guarantee you the possibility to export your XD prototypes complete with assets and html and css code perfectly working. These plugins represent a breakthrough if you work closely with web developers, or maybe you are already a web developer and want to quickly transform your graphic layout into a web page!
Adobe XD Accessibility Plugin
If you are a UI/UX designer, the topic of accessibility of your prototypes should always remain central to your business. A good UI and user experience is one that allows the greatest number of users to easily perform the actions for which your design is in place. Inappropriate color combinations for those with color blindness, for example, undermine the usability of your work. Even the size of the font, the presence or absence of a marked contrast between the text and the background, are additional elements that could create friction to your user. To check the accessibility of your prototype in Adobe XD we recommend one of the very first plugins developed for XD: Stark.
Some features are free others require an upgrade after a subscription.

Adobe XD plugins allow you to have a number of useful features at your fingertips without having to resort to external solutions. They are developed by third parties and as such, sometimes involve the use of paid forms of subscriptions (although most of the essential ones mentioned in the article are free). To manage (update, uninstall or install) plug-ins go through the Adobe Xd “plug in” screen.
