Based on our comparisons and many hours of research, here are the 7 accessories we recommend for your barbecues.
1 – A fairly large lighting chimney
For charcoal barbecue enthusiasts, a lighting chimney is certainly the number one accessory. Indeed, thanks to this, the problem of lighting the barbecue simply does not exist anymore.
All you have to do is put the charcoal inside, put two or three fire starters under the chimney that you light and that’s it! The charcoal sets quite quickly and as soon as it’s ready, you just have to spread it out in the bottom of your barbecue.
Our recommendation
Tested and approved by the editors, this fireplace with the right dimensions is ideal to start your barbecue. Moreover, Weber is a brand that is more than recognized in the field.

2 – Strong and long enough gloves
Although the absence of an oven in your kitchen may dispense with the presence of potholders in your home, during a barbecue, it is better to have a pair, and a good one. And while there are plenty of them, some very plain and others humorous, we recommend that you opt for gloves specifically designed for this use, which are much more resistant to heat.
Our recommendation
Thanks to their 100% leather design, these gloves are much more resistant than simple potholders and provide better protection against heat. In addition, they are also longer, which prevents your forearms from cooking too.

3 – Solid utensils
Barbecue experts have surely expected it, of course you need specific utensils. Leave the pie scoop in your kitchen and opt instead for a large spatula, a pair of tongs and a meat fork. This is the perfect trio for handling all types of food, from the smallest to the largest.
For this reason, we advise you to opt for sets that include all three utensils. Of course, it is possible to find sets with many other utensils: skewers, knives, cooking thermometer, etc. Our advice is to choose a good brand and to avoid too big sets because, from experience, you won’t use half of them.
Noth recommendation
This set of utensils includes a spatula, a meat fork and cooking tongs. They are all long enough to avoid the risk of burning. In addition, they are made of stainless steel and are therefore sturdy.

4 – A good cleaning brush
When it comes to cleaning the grill, it’s best to avoid cleaning products that could easily end up on your plate if not rinsed or burned perfectly. Instead, we prefer to opt for a stainless steel bristle brush.
With it, all you have to do is scrub the grill before you start your barbecue, to make sure that the remains of your last barbecue don’t end up on your daily preparations. It takes a little more elbow grease than a specific product, but honestly, not much more.
Our recommendation
The T-shape of this brush fits perfectly on your grills. In addition, it is wide enough to make your job easier. Its bristles are made of stainless steel and are resistant to wear.

5 – A waterproof apron
Because a grease stain on your new shirt is never fun, an apron is – in our opinion – one of the essentials for a successful barbecue.
From a practical point of view, it may be interesting to consider the presence of pocket(s) for utensils, spices and other items. And for the more epicurean among you, you should know that some even offer the possibility of placing your beer in them…
Our recommendation
Although this model is quite expensive, its leather material protects you from the heat and from any hot embers. It is also quite large and has a zipped pocket on the front.

A cheap alternative
Simpler but still waterproof, this model is long enough to protect you effectively whatever the height of your b
arbecue. In addition, it offers two large pockets on the front.

6 – A sufficiently large cooking basket
While aluminium trays
are very convenient for cooking vegetables, potatoes, fish and seafood, they are neither environmentally friendly nor economical in the long run. So we recommend that you keep them for the camembert and use a cooking basket for the rest.
These baskets have the particularity of being flat and perforated, which allows the water in the food to escape. This also enhances the taste of the barbecue. And on the practical side, choose a model that is dishwasher safe.
Our recommendation
Made of stainless steel, this model is solid and can withstand temperatures of up to 300°C.
It
also has a good capacity and can accommodate different types of food: meat, vegetables, fish, etc.

alternative for fish
This model is not as high as the one we present above which makes it more suitable for fish or seafood kebabs in our opinion. However, it is just as solid thanks to its stainless steel composition.

7 – A durable protective cover
If you’re thinking of leaving your barbecue outside all season, a protective cover is essential for its survival. Indeed, with the rain and the wind, it risks otherwise to rust and/or to be damaged more quickly.
To make your choice, it is essential to take into account the shape and dimensions of your barbecue. Often, you will need a larger one for gas models
.
Our recommendation for round models
Ideal for round charcoal models up to 57 cm, this sturdy cover is made of breathable but weatherproof fabric. It comes with securing straps to keep the cover properly in place.

A cheap alternative
Also intended for larger models (max 181 x 66 x 130 cm), this protective cover is a little less resistant than the two previous models but is much cheaper.
