Despite competition from TikTok, BeReal, and other new social platforms, Snapchat continues to innovate in order to attract more and more new users and retain those already registered. Today, if Snapchat seems somewhat deserted by its first users, the youngest are responding and taking advantage of the new features frequently made available by the application.

A few years ago, Snapchat introduced an interactive map that lets us know what our friends are doing, see the most visited locations, and much more. While this doesn’t hold much interest, the social network continues to optimize it to provide the best user experience possible.

Snapchat refines its SnapMap

This week, Snapchat rolled out a new update for this map. With the new version, it is possible to keep track of our itinerary, for example a place we have visited, or would like to visit. This way it is possible to save places and get recommendations for future visits. A sort of Foursquare with a Snapchat twist.

As far as recommendations are concerned, the “popular” section of the map will display a list of personalized suggestions based on the places you’ve visited and what is popular in your area.

Over the years, Snapchat continues to optimize its map by adding new and sometimes interesting features. Most recently, the social network integrated an option for companies like Ticketmaster to post events and offer tickets for sale directly through the SnapMap.

As we mentioned at the beginning of this article, we’ve been more likely to talk about TikTok than Snapchat for some time. However, Ghost has been enjoying impressive growth for the past few months, and even broke a record in Q3 2021. Evan Spiegel, Snapchat’s CEO, said of this, “Snapchat has seen inflection points in key behaviors such as posting Stories and engagement with Snap Map.”
