Xiaomi enters the oil-free fryer market with the Mi Smart Air Fryer 3.5L. This model with a particularly sleek look swaps the traditional control panel for a mobile app.

Xiaomi continues its invasion of the home and attacks the kitchen with its Mi Smart Air Fryer 3.5L. Anglicists will have understood: it is an oil-free fryer, the first to integrate the catalog of the Chinese giant. The alternatives are nevertheless numerous on this market carried in particular by Ninja, Seb or Philips, and it is without surprise on the technological aspect that Xiaomi decided to bet to distinguish itself.

An oil-free fryer that’s sleek and connected

No real control panel here. The Mi Smart Air Fryer 3.5L seems to include only a power button and an Oled display to show the current cooking cycle, temperature and time remaining.

For programming, which is possible up to 24 hours in advance, Xiaomi instead highlights its Mi Home app. The connection is made via Bluetooth 4.0 and a hundred recipe ideas are mentioned. However, one hopes that settings can also be entered directly on the device, without the help of a smartphone, like on the Proscenic T21. The Mi Smart Air Fryer 3.5L is also compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant to start and pause a cooking or check the remaining time by voice.

Oil-free frying, but not only…

In any case, the 1500 W resistance of the oil-free fryer of Xiaomi should allow it to heat between 40 and 200 °C. A temperature range wide enough to consider other cooking methods than frying without oil. Defrosting, dehydration or fermentation (for yogurt, for example) are also mentioned. Finally, let us underline that the Air Fryer of Xiaomi cooks within a drawer provided with a non-stick coating being able to pass to the dishwasher and that its volume of 3,5 l is announced sufficient to serve until five people.

As is often the case with Xiaomi, the price should also be one of the main selling points. The Mi Smart Air Fryer is advertised at €99 in Europe and, although it could be different in France, we can’t imagine the difference being more than a dozen euros. This would still be a bit more affordable than the entry-level model from Ninja, for example, which made a strong impression when it came to our lab. The launch date has yet to be confirmed.
