The early months of 2021 will be marked by the anticipated launch of the new flagship series including the Huawei P50 and P50 Pro. Over the past few months, we’ve seen several rumors about their arrival, especially in the current context plagued by the US ban. Ahead of their official unveiling, we’ve decided to round up all the rumors and leaks that will come out from here on out.

Update 27/07: Just hours before the official unveiling, a new leak shows us what should be the chipset of Huawei P50 Pro 4G. Find all the details in the “Hardware” section.

Huawei P50, P50 Pro and P50 Pro+ coming soon: all we know

Design and display

Rumors would confirm the supply of OLEDs by Samsung Display and LG Display, a sign of thepost-ban opening. Speaking of Huawei P50, the smartphone would have a 6.3-inch Full HD+ screen, with dimensions of 156.7 x 74 x 8.3 mm (10.6 mm at the camera). So the footprint goes up, compared to Huawei P40 and its 6.1″ at 148.9 x 71.1 x 8.5 mm.

For the P50 Pro’s diagonal, however, there’s conflicting information. According to Teme, the two models Pro and Pro+ would have a 6.78″ Full HD+ (2640 x 1280 pixels) diagonal, but OnLeaks is talking about 6.6″. A screenshot taken by Bruce Lee, Vice President of the brand’s telephony division, which shows a resolution of 2696 x 1224 pixels, with an aspect ratio of 20:9 and the confirmation of the punc

central h-hole. Either way, it should support a 120 Hz refresh rate and 10-bit dynamic range.

While P50 will retain the flat screen present on P40, there could be a step up in terms of curvature with P50 Pro. Leaker Teme points out that there will be a difference from the previous flagships. It won’t be a Waterfall or Quad-Curved panel like Mate 40 or P40 Pro. However, the story told to us by the ever-reliable OnLeaks renders is quite different. On Huawei P50 we see confirmed flat screen……

but on P50 Pro we see a Dual Edge screen with a canonical curvature. No Waterfall panels like the Mate series, but no Quad Curve like the P40 one either. The curvature looks very similar to that of many other smartphones, with even the abandonment of the dual punch-hole solution. The earphone capsule also becomes more standard, compared to the magnetic type of the previous flagships.

But the main new feature of the P50 family will be the camera module. Both on the base model and on the Pro makes its appearance an elliptical-like module that takes the forms previously introduced with the Nova 8 series

. Shapes certainly original, if compared with that of other top of the range, but that could polarize the taste of users.

After so many renders, appear on the network also live photos. Needless to say, these images also confirm all the innovations we have discussed so far, including punch-hole screen and elliptical camera module. An image that reveals one of the colors with which P50 will be launched, called Sparkling Pink, with a glittery finish that reminds – not surprisingly – Honor 50

live photos, this time with Huawei P50 Pro in Gold and Blue colorways, have appeared on the net

At the event dedicated to HarmonyOS 2.0, we saw the first official teaser. In the short video we see confirmed what will be the look of the top of the range Huawei, including curved display and dual-circle camera compartment.

Hardware and

softwareHuawei P50 and P50 Pro have some doubts about the lack of internal components due to the US blocks. We know well how the impossibility to trade with TSMC has brought HiSilicon to its knees, forcing Huawei to fall back on Qualcomm solutions but especially MediaTek

. Not surprisingly, it

was previously rumored

how the P50 series could be based on the future high-end SoC MediaTek that should be the Dimensity 2000.

The truth however, is that around the Huawei P50 hover huge doubts that divide the various models planned between Snapdragon 888 and Kirin 9000. This is because we are talking about models equipped with chipsets with 4G modems, although they are the top range of this vintage.

From internal sources, however, it had been leaked that the whole series could be equipped with Snapdragon 888 4G, but in recent hours a leak shows us some commercial information that sees Huawei P50 Pro 4G equipped with Kirin 9000. In short, it seems clear that until the presentation, we will remain with the doubt between the two SoCs.

In any case, 5G models are not ruled out at all coming. That’s because, as we can see, Huawei’s VP has taken a screenshot of what should actually be P50 Pro equipped with 5G connectivity and Wi-Fi 6. Most likely, the designated chipset for this model would still be a Kirin 9000.

This decision, by the way, would have been made later precisely because of the increasing shortage of Kirin chipsets. Only time will actually tell us what will move these smartphones, now increasingly in a cyclone of conflicting news.

battery and charging, according to what Teme says

Huawei P50 Pro would be equipped with a 4,300 mAh unit. A battery that would be able to charge via cable at 66W, while wirelessly at 50W.

And the same wired charging apparently will be present on Huawei P50 in 4G version and we learn this from the 3C certification that illustrates us a 66W power for the model codenamed JAD-AL50. Leaker Digital Chat Station says there’s doubt it could also be Nova 9, but considering that q

hile this code has already appeared in connection with the alleged P50, we tend to lean towards the first option.huawei p50 hardware 03/07huawei p50 hardware 03/07

On the software side, it is practically obvious that EMUI will no longer exist, in favor of HarmonyOS. All the news in this regard we have discussed in the dedicated article.

Like all Huawei’s top of the line devices, the Huawei P50, P50 Pro and P50 Pro+ will also sport a noteworthy camera compartment. According to leaker Teme, the main difference between the three models will be the amount of sensors. On the base model of Huawei P50, there would be a triple camera with 3x wide-angle and telephoto lenses, equipped with 50+40+8 MP f/1.8-?-3.4 sensors with Summilux lenses. We would have a brand new primary sensor, the Sony IMX707, accompanied by the Sony IMX600 1/1.74″ wide-angle lens and the OV08A10 telephoto lens.

Going up to the Pro model, Pro the telephoto lens would have periscope structure, while on the Pro+ there would be a penta camera with dual telephoto lenses. However, Teme again lets it be known that the sanctions of the US ban will affect the photo quality, which is expected to be worse than expected. No word yet on how, but there is talk of “main camera and telephoto lens issues“. Also, we learn that the P50 series will be the last one co-engineered with Leica.

However, a major new feature for the Pro series would be the primary sensor. We would have the unreleased Sony IMX800, the phantom 1″ sensor, while the wide-angle sensor would be the OmniVision OV64A, a 64 MP 1/1.34″ lens with <a href=”

m-benefits/” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow noopener”>FreeForm

. For the telephoto section, there’s talk of a 5x optical zoom and RYYB sensor, while the P50 Pro+ is said to have a dual telephoto lens with 3x/10x optical zoom. The fifth sensor on the Pro+ is supposed to be the same thermometer we saw on the Mate 40 RS Porsche Design.

In the renders that have appeared online, the wording “LEICA” confirms the partnership and reveals another detail. A focal length of 13-90 mm is indicated and that would mean no periscope: in fact, P40 Pro (Plus?) would adopt a variable zoom, starting from 3x and going up to 5x/10x (the maximum zoom is not yet known).

Huawei P50’s official teasers tell us in a sibylline way about its photographic capabilities. Specifically, about the ability to capture true-to-life photos as well as offer some degree of zoom. Less sibylline, however, is the first official sample, taken with the P50’s camera and shared by Huawei on social. The image captures a lunge in a fencing match, hinting that the camera will be very fast in shooting, being able to capture such fast action without blurring.

After the many rumors and renders on the shape of the camera module of the new P50 series, appear on the network, thanks to the leaker Teme, other photo samples of the Macro camera or otherwise of the Zoom present in the models of this line up of smartphones that promises to be increasingly interesting. As we can see, although they are sample images, the level of detail is remarkable and confirms the enormous work of Huawei in the field of photography, as always helped by the partnership with Leica, once again present for the flagship.

Huawei P50 – Price and release date (Global too?)

/>Usually Huawei used to unveil the P family in spring, but this year the fateful date has moved to the middle of summer. The launch event for the Huawei P50 series is set for July 29. At the time of writing, the presentation is set in the country and there are also rumors that for the first time the top series of Huawei will not be there outside China. However, in these hours the well-known magazine GSMArena

reports that the Huawei P50 family will also arrive in a Global version, presumably on the same day of the Chinese launch. However, there is a lack of confirmation regarding both the actual launch outside the country and the possible date of the Global event. The newspaper cites as a source a representative of the Finnish division of Huawei: as soon as there are official details we will update the article with all the news.

There was also talk of possible production problems for the Huawei P50 Pro+: according to rumors, it will be launched later than the more modest models but obviously even in this case there is no official confirmation.

According to previous leaks, sales of the series should start on August 5.
