‘s been a

lot of focus on the new features of the Huawei P50 Pro’s main photo compartment. But let’s not forget that for a smartphone like the Huawei P50 Pro, it’s important to also offer quality that lives up to expectations for the selfie camera. Here, then, the guys at DxOMark have thoughtfully evaluated it and, again, the result sees the Huawei flagship at the top of the leaderboard. With a score of 106 points, the P50 Pro surpasses the previous leaders, which by the way include just P40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro.

.4 1/2.8″ sensor, 1.22 µm pixels and EIS stabilization. Pretty much the same configuration as the Mate 40 Pro’s selfie camera, but with the addition of PDAF autofocus, for the first time on a Huawei smartphone. All powered by the Kirin 9000 and its built-in image processor, as well as the various AI processing that comes with it. And in fact, one of the features that benefits the quality of selfies involves HDR processing, improving the performance in difficult lighting conditions.

The 112-point photo score puts it 2 points above the Mate 40 Pro, with excellent results in pretty much every department. We see a wide dynamic range, precise white balance, reliable autofocus, low noise levels, decent detail in all lights and good exposure of faces. At the same time, we notice a loss of fine detail in low light, as well as a color tone of faces that does not always reflect reality.

As for selfie videos, the Huawei P50 Pro reflects the same quality, with very good results in most of the tested parameters. The EIS stabilization is effective and the focus helps in identifying subjects in the frame. However, the dynamic range is limited in low light and there is some noise on faces when the light is not favorable.
