In this guide, we return to explain how to install Play Store and Google apps on Huawei and Honor smartphones that lack them. Ever since the US ban on the Chinese company, all the latest marketed smartphones must necessarily rely exclusively on Huawei Mobile Services. This means no Gapps, no Play Store and incompatibility with banking services and other malfunctions that can result.

Although the company is doing its best to compensate for these absences with its AppGallery platform, many are missing it. That’s why, although not officially, we want to explain the new working method that allows you to bring back the Google ecosystem on banned smartphones.

How to install Play Store Google app on Huawei or Honor smartphone

Months after the previous method to install Google services on Huawei and Honor, the one we are going to tell you about today is based on Gspace. This is an app that allows you to add a virtual space on your smartphone, which is enabled to install the Play Store and Google apps. This means the ability to be able to log in with your Google account and install any Gapps, such as YouTube, Gmail, Chrome, Maps, Drive and so on.

The beauty of this method is that it’s really very simple to implement and affordable for everyone. No strange and repetitive procedures, since everything is done in seconds. This way you can add features to your Huawei smartphone that would normally be prevented from you.

Compatible models

As for the smartphones compatible with the new method (remember, this is an unofficial solution), this procedure should work on almost all devices released with HMS only. The affected terminals are:

  • Huawei P40, P40 Pro, P40 Lite, P40 Lite 5G
  • Huawei Mate 30 Pro, Mate XS
  • Huawei Y6, Y6p, Y5
  • Huawei MatePad 10.1, MatePad Pro

As for Honor terminals, at the moment it seems that the procedure is not supported but nothing prevents you from giving it a try. Especially for those devices that share the same hardware as the aforementioned models.

Installation guide

The first thing to do is obviously download and install the Gspace app on your Huawei smartphone. As much as the app is present on the AppGallery, I encourage you to download the modded version as it is ad-free.

Download GSpace

Once you’ve downloaded the ZIP file, extract it and you’ll have three files. The first one is called ““: install the app, give it permissions (otherwise the apps you’ll install might not work) and run it. A v

When you’re inside, click on one of the apps that come to you (like YouTube or WhatsApp) and you’ll be able to sign in to your Google account. Log in and you’ll find yourself inside the Google Play Store, without having to install anything else to make it work.

At this point, go back to the three extracted files and install the “shortcutmaker” file, that is, the Shortcut Maker app, which you’ll need to have the Play Store directly in your home. Once installed, enter the app, confirm the warning that will appear and go back to the last of the three files to download. I’m talking about the “play_-_gspace” file: open it, click on “More“, select “Shortcut Maker

” and you’ll be able to create the icon that will redirect you directly to the Play Store.

The next step is to make sure that the use of downloaded apps is not bound to opening Gspace. To avoid having to open it every time, hold down the icon of the app you’re interested in and click “Create Shortcut

“. That way, an icon will be added to your Huawei smartphone’s home screen that links to the app in question.

Limitations The limitations are pretty much the same as seen with some of the previous methods. This means that you won’t be able to receive notifications for Gmail, while they seem to work properly for other apps such as YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger, although sometimes they might not arrive. Also, since we’re not talking about a Google platform, this method doesn’t allow you to download streaming apps like Netflix and Disney+, while Prime Video does. Google Pay can also be downloaded but not used, due to incompatibility issues with Google Play Services. There are also other Google apps that don’t work properly, like Assistant and Google Home.
