Google has updated the Google Maps app for iOS (iPad/iPhone and companion app for Apple Watch) and the new feature is the first set of widgets for the Home screen, which – Bi G explains – will help plan the route and reach the destination.

Two, as mentioned the specific widgets; the first allows you to check traffic conditions, store opening hours, view restaurant reviews and more, for a given location; the second widget, is designed to allow the user to locate nearby activities such as: restaurants, gas stations and grocery stores.

To add the two widgets to your phone’s Home screen, simply do the following:

  1. From the Home screen, tap and hold a widget or blank area until the apps start vibrating
  2. Tap the grey “Add” button in the top left corner.
  3. Select a widget and then tap “Add widget”.

You can also add widgets from the Today view. From this view, just tap and hold a widget until the Quick Actions menu opens, then tap Edit Home screen. You drag the widget toward the right edge of the screen until it appears on the Home screen, then tap Done.

Google Maps for iPhone or iPad requires iOS/iPadOS 12.2 or later, “weighs” 231.4 MB, and is free to download from the App Store.
